It's too hard to have a social life with no phone (the YMCA in Christchurch doesn't have phones in the rooms), so I got a NZ SIM chip.

Speaking of YMCAs - I am sold!  This one is brand new, I have my own room, it is one of the better beds for this trip, and they even  give you electric blankets (it's COLD here).  There is a gym, squash courts,
two eateries...  And it is located right off a park in the center of town.

I will be going around S Island New Zealand until 26 May, then heading
